I ordered this harness in size small for our 3-month-old black Lab puppy. As evidenced in the photo, Franny finds it extremely comfortable because it doesn't interfere in the least with her naps. When I call her over to put it on in the morning, she does not hesitate. In fact, she hears the jingling of the buckles and knows it's time to get dressed! The best part - one section of the webbing started coming unwoven. I used a match to melt the frayed ends (YES, I took it off the pup first!) and that helped, but I was concerned that this was a sign other parts of the webbing would start to come apart. So I contacted Kurgo's customer service, and I could not be more pleased with their response! Clearly, this is a company that understands. Pups are not just pets, they are family members, and they need to be kept safe. Even though Franny wasn't losing sleep over this situation, I was feeling like a less-than-perfect mom - but Kurgo came through and all is well. When Franny outgrows this size I won't hesitate to order a larger Kurgo harness.I highly recommend this product, and Franny gives it 5 paws up!I’ve never had to count on this harness in an accident, and I hope I never will, but it definitely gives me a peace of mind, as I drive with my dog frequently. It’s well-made and sturdy. It’s a bit difficult to take on and off, but given the fact that it’s crash-tested, I don’t mind as long as it’ll keep my dog safe. It’s also much cheaper than the other crash-tested harnesses. A piece of advice I’d offer, as I was a bit confused at first: some harnesses claim to be crash tested, and while that might be true, many label their harnesses as crash tested even if it didn’t pass the test (from what my research indicated. I might get the details wrong, but I’ll try my best to sum up what I learned:) There’s a company that regulates crash tests for pet products, only of which three passed, such as the SleepyPod. Kurgo performed a test in the early 2010s with their harness which failed the test. However, they modified their harness and improved it, then performed a crash test under similar conditions but with a different company. It passed, but since it was not performed by the main company that regulates these crash tests, you won’t see it on the “pass” list for the main company, even though this product *did* pass a test. You can find it on their YouTube channel. Overall, I’d rate it 5/5 as it gives a peace of mind and is a better financial alternative to other crash tested products. Hope this was helpful and sorry if I didn’t get every detail correct.I love this harness my Newfie is huge and he would mange to unbuckle himself with any of the other care harnesses that would just buckle into your seat belt and he can still move and be comfy all while being secure with this harness and it fits him so well and is adjustable!Safety harness in the car. It works really well.We had been using another great brand, but our fur buddy always hesitated because of the design. We tried the Kurgo and after 1 fitting, he does not fight us anymore. The Kurgo allows for a quick slip over the neck (collar) and then under belly straps to buckle on his back. This appears to give him more comfort and maneuverability, so much that we leave it on him during day trips. He doesn't seem to mind. The other system seemed to be rigid and restrict his movement with a rigid back plate and very thick buckling system. We love this one and would purchase again for future pups.A little difficult to secure on a long haired breed. Needs a swivel connection on the tether strap.I love the build quality and actual proof of safety that your pet is secure while driving but putting the strap on my dog is a bit time consuming compared to the traditional buckle. Hoping that part of the product can be improved, otherwise this is meant to be kept inside your car and find myself mostly using it when we go on long roadtrips. Its a little hard to get them on but once you figure out which way the metal tabs are supposed to go, and get the chest straps set to the right lenght, it fits our young GSP well and the strap is easy to attach to the seat belt.My first preference for having the dog travel in the car with us was to have her in a crate in the boot. However, she absolutely hates it and is always travel sick which makes going anywhere with her a nightmare, but she will happily sit on the back seat. So I started looking at car harnesses and quickly found out that most of them are cheap and cheerful and basically just a nod to the law, but actually do nothing to restrain your dog in the event of an accident. Seeing as I usually have at least one of my children in the car with me, I need them to be safe from a flying dog, and I’d really rather the dog was unharmed too. After a lot of reading online I decided on the Kurgo as it’s one of the few crash tested dog harnesses available in the uk, and it doesn’t cost a fortune. It’s easy to fit, seems very well made and my dog is very happy wearing it. It is quite heavy thanks to the metal hardware which may be an issue with very small dogs, but my labrador puppy doesn’t seem to mind, even when we used it as a walking harness, and of course it’s the metal clips which give the harness it’s strength. A word of warning though - if it’s even slightly loose fitting, the dog can escape it so make sure it’s tight enough! She seems to have plenty of space to settle on the back seat when restrained, but not enough that she can try to jump in my toddler’s lap or try to get in the front of the car. Thankfully I’ve not needed to test the crash test claims but so far I’m happy.I bought the medium which fits my 13kg dog very well. I did have an issue with the seller sending the wrong size and the ensuing marketplace returns palaver... I hadn’t realised that the medium was not sent by Amazon unlike the other sizes. However, we have the correct size now so it’s all good. If it wasn’t for the fact that the metal on the harness will rust if wet, I would probably ditch our regular waking harness and use this full time, I like it that much!Edit October 2020.I’ve recently had to buy another Kurgo harness in large now my dog is 24kg. I had no hesitation in buying it again, and it has now completely replaced the regular walking harness. The metal clips didn’t rust although I expected them to, and the front lead attachment ring has helped a lot with the dog pulling. I now recommend this harness to everyone I know!Wanted a crash-tested (and passed) harness for small spaniel. I tried the Sleepypod Clickit Sport first, as it does seem to be the industry’s leading one but despite having read all instructions and watched Sleepypod’s own video, I could not get the adjustments right for the straps around the neck and on a motorway journey I could hear raspy breaths as though it was pressing on his airway. Thankfully was able to stop and remove it very quickly. So, I was then on the hunt for a crash tested one that would not cause the same issue. I discovered three others. After researching I settled on this one. I have only had it a few days but already done a long journey. Obviously (and thankfully) not tested in a crash but it sits well on him (7 kilo puppy) and doesn’t put pressure on his airway.Hope this helps others in making their decision. This harness was bought for our retriever as a car harness so that she can travel safely in the car. The most important consideration was safety and I am very re-assured by the quality and build of the harness. It is quite a heavy harness and while there may be lighter alternatives that use plastic fittings instead of metal I wanted to make sure that the harness was robust enough to protect our dog in case of an accident. The build quality looks excellent, thick nylon strapping and heavy duty metal fittings that look designed to last and withstand a lot of force. The design is quite simple and it was easy to adjust to the size of our dog. The harness will adjust to accommodate different sized necks and torsos via four sliding buckles; once adjusted it was simply a matter of unclipping each time we put it on or off. I found the clasps a bit fiddly at first but they feel rock solid when fastened. The harness has attachments for a lead both at the front of the breast pad and on the top of harness so could be effectively used as a training/walking harness though this wasn't our primary intention. The harness comes with an equally sturdy-looking seat belt tether and is very good value for money. I feel reassured buying a brand that I recognise; the harness was apparently crash-tested and comes with a 'lifetime warranty' though I don't know what the customer service is like for this product as I have never needed to use it.The harness seems well-padded. I have seen other harnesses where there is more/thicker padding and where the straps/webbing is a bit wider, these may be more comfortable for prolonged wearing but in all honesty our dog seemed very comfortable wearing this one.Overall I am very pleased with the harness. I did quite a lot of research before buying and if you are looking for a car (or multi-use) dog harness then I don't think that you could do much better.First what you really need to know - sizing. I have a slightly overweight barrel chested Labrador and Large fits great. I actually ordered the XL too but when I put this on the chest strap was around her waist rather than on her sternum. When you fit it don't just look at the strap length, make sure the back strap is around the chest. I think the Large would be perfect for pretty much every kind of Lab to be honest as the straps are 75% extended on pop-pop. People have described the size chart as 'well off', it isn't- it is spot on. The only comment I woukd have is why not put some breeds on there. Other stuff, it looks great and is very sturdy, I do live in fear of one of those metal buckles going down the side of my car though. The enclosed seat belt clip is useless, it's non adjustable too short and looks pretty garbage on the seatbelt. I bought the kurgo direct clip in seatbelt which is great. We have a sprocker and this is not too bulky on him. The harness itself is easy to fit and adjust, and seems comfortable for our boy. I really like how you can walk them on the front clip - ours runs off, forgetting there is a human attached to the lead, so it jars far less on the arm and shoulder because he pulls himself round, causing him to self correct after a few goes.We struggled, however, with using the seat belt through the carabiner, hence dropping two stars. Our dog moves around a lot when travelling and within seconds he was getting himself tied in knots and getting stressed out by it. This wasn't too bad if he was on the front seat of the van (3 seats) where one of us could untangle him, but it was being done literally every few minutes. We now attach him using a doggy seat belt to the clip on the back that the carabiner attached to. We know this isn't ideal in a crash situation, but he is far happier and can untangle himself when he moves around, and the damage to him in a crash will be less than if we clipped onto his collar.
